About the School
Founded in 1890, Jovan Jovanović Zmaj Primary School is the oldest primary school in Pančevo and a cornerstone of education in the local community for over 130 years. Located in the heart of the city’s historic pedestrian zone, the school is surrounded by cultural landmarks such as the city park, museum, library, and the Tamiš riverbank—offering students a unique and inspiring environment in which to learn and grow.
Today, the school serves between 600–800 students aged 7 to 14, supported by a dedicated team of over 50 teachers. With a long-standing tradition of academic excellence, students consistently achieve above-average results and successfully transition to their preferred secondary schools. Beyond academics, the school fosters creativity, respect, and inclusion through a rich program of cultural and extracurricular activities.
The school plays a vital role in the community, particularly as it serves children from surrounding neighborhoods where no alternative school exists. It is also committed to inclusivity, supporting students from socially vulnerable backgrounds, including Roma children, as well as students with special educational needs.
Why Support Is Needed
Despite its strong legacy and impact, the school faces significant infrastructure challenges that directly affect the quality of education. There is a shortage of classrooms, leading to overcrowding, while facilities such as restrooms require urgent renovation due to dampness and deterioration. Many classrooms are also in need of repainting and modernization.
How Your Support Can Help
With your support, we can help create a safer, healthier, and more inspiring learning environment for hundreds of children. Investment in infrastructure improvements and essential equipment will:
Reduce overcrowding and improve learning conditions
Enhance hygiene and safety standards
Support teachers in delivering higher-quality education
Ensure all students—regardless of background—have equal opportunities to succeed
By contributing, you are not only improving school facilities—you are investing in the future of an entire community.
