ALEKSANDRA PARAVINA

A Serbian/British national, Aleksandra holds dual citizenship. A PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Helsinki, currently living in Finland. Her dissertation topic is a comparative study between Estonia and Croatia where she examines the struggle of Serb and Russophone minorities to preserve their education, culture, and language as well as what kind of EU legal systems are capable of promoting the well-being of these communities and individuals.

Originally from Croatia, she has a keen interest in cross-border regions and growing up near Sombor in Serbia exposed her to political, social, and cultural changes as well as the stigma associated with them. Her goal is to support initiatives that contribute to education and better quality of life for young people growing up in these border regions.
