Visit to the Vuk Karadzic Center in Sombor, Serbia

Visit to the Vuk Karadzic Center in Sombor, Serbia, by one of the Founder of the Raymond Nicolet Trust, Christine Fort-Hilcenko and Vassilis Kargas from the charity UK team. The school employs 60 teachers, among them 40 specialized for special needs children. 150 children with special needs are taught in this school, with an additional 150 integrated in local schools. Activities include psychometric reeducation, speech-language therapy, sensory integration therapy, rehabilitation for physically disabled and visually impaired children.
Very warm welcome from the school staff with a beautiful handmade gift from the children to Christine.

A workshop/lecture by the teachers on conflict management took place while we were visiting. A great atmosphere amongst very kind people. The staff is already doing an amazing job with the resources at their disposition. Among plenty of other things, they recycle clothing to make bags to be sold and all kind of handmade products.

After the workshop and closing remarks, we set up the short and long term actions. The Raymond Nicolet Trust will be giving £2000 to the Vuk Karadzic Center to buy IT equipment this autumn. All teams in the UK and France have been busy collecting more than 150kg of clothes and toys, which will be transported before Christmas. If you have any more clothes and toys to give us, please do. We are filling our lorry to the maximum! Many thank to MHL Transport for kindly storing all our boxes and to all our generous donors who have given so many items already. We are grateful for your kindness and generosity. Thank you for helping us to make a difference in the lives of children in Serbia.

Talented Serbian photographer Sinisa Trifunovic and member of the Serbian branch of the charity came along to take those stunning photographs.
